New J.E. Ober Elementary assistant principal Michael Reyes with Dan Durrwachter

Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District announced the hiring of Michael Reyes as the new Assistant Principal of J.E. Ober Elementary School after a vote at the June 15 school board meeting.

Reyes brings a diverse background in both elementary education and school leadership to the district. He last served as Assistant Principal at West Noble High School, where he oversaw student support initiatives, coordinated building-wide testing programs, lead school safety efforts, and conducted teacher evaluations. His experience working with students, staff and families has helped foster positive school cultures focused on student achievement and growth.

Prior to moving into administration, Reyes spent several years in the classroom as a fifth-grade and fourth-grade teacher in Indiana, Missouri and Texas. His teaching experience includes positions at Goshen Community Schools, Rockwood School District in Missouri, and Terrell Independent School District in Texas.

Reyes earned a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2023 and is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree through Indiana Wesleyan University. He earned his B.A. in Elementary Education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. He holds Indiana Building Administrator certification and brings experience in school safety, special education collaboration, instructional leadership and continuous school improvement.

Reyes will begin his role at J.E. Ober Elementary ahead of the 2026-27 school year and will help support students, staff and families as the school district continues its work toward opening the new J.E. Ober Elementary facility.
