On Monday, April 27, the Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District School Board officially approved Kyle Wood as the new principal of Garrett High School. Wood will begin his role at the start of the 2026–2027 school year.
Wood brings 18 years of experience in education, with a diverse background spanning elementary, middle, high school, and collegiate instruction. He has spent the past 11 years serving within Northwest Allen County Schools (NACS), where he has developed a strong reputation for instructional leadership and student-centered programming.
"I am pleased to recommend Kyle Wood for the position of high school principal. Kyle demonstrates high integrity, a strong work ethic, and an authentic commitment to serving others," said Garrett-Keyser-Butler CSD Superintendent Dan Durrwachter.
"What stands out most is his genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students. I believe his approach to decisions will be by keeping student success and well-being at the forefront. I believe his leadership style will create a positive school culture where staff feel supported and students are encouraged to reach their full potential."
A graduate of Columbia City High School, Wood earned his undergraduate degree from Huntington University in 2008. He holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Huntington University, as well as a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Purdue Fort Wayne.
Wood’s leadership experience includes administrative roles at Carroll High School, along with serving as an interim administrator at Huntertown Elementary. In addition to his academic leadership, he is a veteran multi-sport coach and has extensive experience organizing athletic events, community fundraisers, and school-wide programs.
Wood and his wife of 18 years met while attending Huntington University. Together, they are the proud parents of three daughters.
"I am confident that this candidate has the character, leadership capacity, and dedication necessary to be an effective and impactful principal," Durrwachter said.
