On Monday night, the Garrett-Keyser-Butler CSD School Board approved the hiring of Kyle George as the next Principal of J.E. Ober Elementary School.
"I am recommending Kyle George for the elementary principal position. Kyle has shown strong character, a willingness to continue to grow, and high expectations for learning. Kyle has also shown thoughtfulness and the ability to build relationships through our interview process," said GKB Superintendent Dan Durrwachter.
George has spent time as a high school English teacher at Hammond High School, Streamwood High School in Illinois, and Argos Jr./Sr. High School. Throughout his career, George has taught 6-12 grade in English, including AP Literature and AP Language. He has also coached Varsity and Freshman baseball, Speech Team, and has been a sponsor for other various clubs.
Over the past year, George served as an Administrative Intern for Warsaw Community Schools, where he stepped into Dean and Assistant Principal roles across four different elementary schools. During that time, he also served as acting principal at Washington STEM Academy while the principal was on medical leave. In these leadership positions, George earned praise for his thoughtful decision-making, steady leadership, and commitment to student-centered practices. His experiences throughout the district allowed him to develop a strong understanding of elementary systems, resources, and best practices that will help prepare him to lead J.E. Ober Elementary School as its new principal.
A graduate of high school in Illinois, George earned his Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Grace College in 2015. He later completed his Master of Science in Educational Leadership at Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2025.
Kyle and his wife, Erin, met during their first education class at Grace College. Together, they are proud parents of three children: Everly (8), Hazell (6), and Kaius (3).
"Kyle has shown that he has approached leadership through a service model. I believe he will come and serve our community, students, and school through building relationships. His character, work ethic, and intentionality to continuous learning and growth make him an outstanding candidate for elementary leadership and someone I believe will positively impact both students and staff."
